Is a good marriage gift? Um, no, she claimed delicately, in order not to make me feel just like a moron. Like, you might paint him a picture, or make a scrapbook, or write him a poem. And if I wrote some more, Id have a complete chapbook. Over the next couple of months, I wrote more poems. I wrote the final one the day before our wedding, capturing my feelings on the brink of our wedding. Then I outlined them out, three-hole-punched them, made a cardstock cover, and tied the pages along with ribbon. Ive also donated private essays to anthologies, just so I could give the book as a present to the person the essay was about. As two starving students in Austin, Texas, we quickly realized organizing a marriage was a darn costly endeavour. Bridal Bargains, our first marriage book, was the results of that effort it was first released in 1990 and now is in its 7th edition, with 500k copies sold. If you need to get fancy, you can hire an artist to make you a cover or design your work for you. Print-on-demand firms make this a reasonable option if you research and get rid of the extras.
